Dota 2 matchmaking update removes MMR gain/loss variance

Valve’s punishment tool for game ruiners in Dota has never been perfect. We’re seeing more players than ever get sent to Low Priority. Whether or not a “shadow pool” exists for such players remains unclear, although to suggest that your behavior score does play a role in Valve’s official matchmaking.
Every week, Chris documents his complex ongoing relationship with Dota 2, Smite, and wizards in general. Prior to this week, I’d played only a single game in Dota 2’s low priority queue. It was about a year and a half ago, and EU server weirdness resulted in a friend and I getting booted from a game-in-progress with an instant abandon. We were condemned to low prio for a single match, and I don’t remember it being particularly eventful.
Perhaps a lot of people were unexpectedly finding themselves there that week. It felt much like any other game of pub Dota, which is to say that it was a bit of a shitshow. A friend recently got themselves stuck with a longer sentence—five or possibly ten games, I’m not sure. Said friend is a member of my regular team, and the rules of low prio means that she can’t play with the rest of us until those games are played. And that, reader, is how I ended up spending a couple of hours in the trench at the bottom of Dota 2’s trench.
Double Trench, ostensibly a punishment mechanic designed to improve the community, actually a bizarre parallel Dota where nothing matters and almost nobody who actually should be there understands why they are there. Have you ever heard the allegory of the long spoons? I first heard it in school during my teens, and for some reason, unlike the majority of things I heard in school during my teens, I’ve remembered it.
Ranked Matchmaking Comes to Dota2
Today, Valve released an update that stated that Immortal players are now only going to be matched up with players within Divine or Immortal ranks. Prior to this, Divine players who partied with medals lower than them would often be queued up with Immortal players, which lead to even further frustration. However, this may still not be enough. It is still an acknowledgement that Valve will be making steps in the right direction.
Dota 2 is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) video game developed and published by Heroes are removed from the drafting pool and become unavailable for all other Dota 2 includes a seasonal Elo rating-based matchmaking system, which is “Dota – Low Priority Matchmaking“. support.
This article is brought to you by StatBanana , the best Dota 2 strategy tool. The report system in Dota 2 is used to reproach players for four different reasons: communication abuse, intentional ability abuse, intentional feeding, and most recently, not playing a selected role. After all, if professional players are capable of having bad games, the rest of us are—no matter how skilled the player is. But the system is routinely misused by players. Players who garner too many reports can be forced into punishments, such as being placed into a low-priority matchmaking pool with other reported players or being banned from chatting in-game.
A Techies player would likely gain an inordinate amount of reports compared to other players, for example. So, can Valve make reports less punishing for innocent players? While there might be no direct approach to fix this, there are ways to mitigate the impact of the report system. When it comes to players who report others simply for playing certain heroes, their behavior is likely a constant, recurring one, rather than a one-off display.
For these players, fraudulent reports can be flagged from the account and can be discounted. Players who routinely misuse the report system can also suffer a drop in their conduct score, providing a very real warning to the user in question. Another solution Valve can take is to look toward its other games for inspiration.
An Overwatch system exists in CS:GO for seasoned players to look at replays of others who are suspected of cheating or hacking. That system could be implemented in Dota 2 for the same reason, but also to verify whether the reported reason is valid.

Jul 2, @ pm. Win low priority game, and never abandon no matter how bad you are, just become usefull like buy ward sentry courier.
For example, players who repeatedly abandon games before they begin, or intentionally throw the match. We want to make sure these sorts of players can more easily find each other, to increase everybody’s enjoyment of the game. It is not my concern. So, I have been experimenting over the past month to learn about hidden pool. I am now certain that getting at least 2 reports will send someone to hidden pool.
There might be other factors, but this what I have narrowed now. To remove hidden pool 5 wins in any game mode is needed. Look at these 2 cases read the images from bottom to top :.
The problem with Dota 2’s ‘low prio’ punishment system
Dota 2 just made a major changes in the Matchmaking focusing on improvement for all players including restoration of the Solo Queue and a new requirement before joining Ranked Matched and other adjustments. Players now have to register a unique phone number to their Steam account in order to play the Ranked Matches. This is to avoid players using multiple accounts in the game that create negative matchmaking experience at all MMR brackets, and their goal is to add a new measure to reduced spam and abuse players from joining the game.
Also, having an active primary account will have a positive effect on both Ranked and Unranked match in Dota 2.
Matchmaking is the process through which the system groups players into opposing teams for public games modes. With the exception of bot games, matchmaking is mostly determined by matchmaking ratings MMR. Unranked or casual games do not display matchmaking ratings and still doesn’t track your MMR for solo and party queues. This function matches you against another player in the Mid Lane.
This match is over when one player dies twice, loses a tower, resigns or disconnects. Type gg in chat to resign. This function matches you or your team against AI-controlled bots. Settings allow players to be matched only with others who have selected the same settings. Selecting more settings can significantly reduce wait time , as the system will be able to search for compatible players from a larger population pool. Game Modes determines which modes you would like to queue for.
Checking more game modes will increase matchmaking speed. Region determines which regional server you would like to play on. Checking more regions will increase matchmaking speed, but may cause latency issues if the server location is far away.
Is Dota 2’s report system punishing the right people?
I’m not sure if this has been brought up before in any of the posts here on Reddit but I had this thought in mind about removing LP Low Priority Matchmaking Pool. Even more after the recent AR changes Valve introduced. Many a times you are thrown into LP matchmaking pool for no fault of yours like poor internet connection, pc crash or something like that.
How about we can remove LP by paying for it? Now, if valve does this, it’ll be cursed like anything. However, what if the money collected by such means is put in a “public vault” with full transparency and subsequently used for D2 community.
What did I try to escape shadow pool? Behaved good during my Dota 2 matches. my Dota 2 behavior score is normal. Have received low priority restriction only.
Keep updated by subscribing to our newsletter! This is a designed as an exercise in folly. When you choose a role, then you need to stick with it. This is a very simple rule of Dota 2 matchmaking, but it is one that many choose to ignore. One of the worst types of Dota 2 players is those who pick a PO5 support role, just to ruin the game for everyone by refusing to buy wards or any other type of support item. This type of player will generally choose the support role, choose a support hero, then fight their PO1 carry for last hits, buy a Desolator with, for example, Crystal Maiden, and proceed to lose the match in spectacular fashion.
